👉 Curious about personal brands...

Hey, Reader!

There's so much buzz around personal branding right now that the term has lost all meaning.

People think it's about:

  • Polished headshots
  • Professional bio statements
  • Consistent Instagram aesthetics

And yes, those things help. But they're not what personal branding is.

Here's what personal branding actually is:

Being instantly recognisable for the problem you solve.

That's it.

When someone sees your content and immediately thinks,
"Oh, that's [
your name]—she helps [specific people] with [specific problem],"
you have a personal brand.

When they have to read three paragraphs and still aren't sure what you do?
You don't.

Most entrepreneurs I talk to don't struggle with talent or expertise. They struggle with clarity and commitment to one clear direction.

That's what this week is about—and why I'm launching something next week that pinpoints exactly where your personal brand is breaking down.

More on that in a minute. First...

3 things most people get wrong about personal branding

1. They think it's about tactics when it's actually about clarity

And clarity matters. Being specific and consistent and clear in what you do and what you stand for is challenging work, but worth it. A strong personal brand answers three questions instantly:

  • Who is this for?
  • What problem does it solve?
  • Why should I trust you?

When those are clear, sales stop feeling forced. They become a natural extension of visibility.

But most entrepreneurs skip this foundational bit and jump straight to "posting more" or "showing up on video" or "building a funnel." The tactics don't work because the positioning isn't there.

Let’s use an example; we all know what the Bat Signal means. We know who’s going to show up, what he’s going to be wearing and what will happen next. It's a clear brand.
Batman rids Gothem City of crime.

Here's another example(not as exciting as Batman's, but it's clear), I help female founders 45+ build personal brands, smart systems & great products with purpose. I’ve been doing this work with corporations, startups and solopreneurs for 26 years.

Your turn: Get ruthlessly clear on those three questions before you worry about anything else.

2. They confuse "exploring" with "building"

Most entrepreneurs don't struggle with talent. They struggle with commitment to one clear direction.

They:

  • Test different niches monthly
  • Shift messaging every few weeks
  • Change offers too quickly
  • Chase trends instead of building systems

Sound familiar?

Indecision fragments authority.

When your audience can't quickly describe what you do, your positioning is unclear. And unclear positioning kills conversion rates.

Here's the thing: Deciding doesn't mean permanent. It means committed long enough to build momentum. Personal brands take time to develop, and they need ongoing love to stay consistent as you grow.

Your turn: Pick one direction and commit to it for at least 6 months before pivoting. Give it time to work.

3. They underestimate the power of visual consistency

You don't need fancy branding or professional photoshoots.

But you do need visual consistency.

When your audience can identify you across platforms instantly—same colours, same style, same vibe—you strengthen your brand. Visual anchors help people remember you.

You don't need extravagance. You need consistency.

Your turn: Choose a distinct colour palette and stick with it. Follow a simple style guide. Make sure people can recognise your content before they even see your name.

2 things i'm loving

✦ A branding exercise by Seth Godin

A brand is not a logo. A brand is a promise, a story and a shorthand. A brand tells us what to expect the next time we engage with you. 👉 Read Seth’s blog.

✦ Sweet Sleep Magnesium Butter

If you're dealing with restless sleep or a racing mind at night (especially during peri/menopause), this has been a game-changer for me. You massage it into your feet before bed and it helps you unwind faster and sink into deeper sleep. Not a cure-all, but noticeably better sleep quality for me. It’s my new nighttime go-to. 👉 Get it here.

1 colour palette to consider

Keep your eyes open next week. I've created a 2-minute quiz that diagnoses exactly where your personal brand is breaking down—and tells you what to fix first.

No guessing. No generic advice. Just a clear diagnosis and a roadmap forward.

It launches Tuesday, March 3rd. (my birthday)! And I'm sending it to you first, before it goes live anywhere else.

If you're tired of feeling invisible online despite your expertise, this is for you.

With love & steady momentum,
xo, Louise 🫶
